Dakota Energy Cooperative, Inc. held its 17th annual meeting on April 8, 2011 at the Miller National Guard Armory. An election for three directors was held. Incumbents Neil Duxbury, Bruce Micheel and Dennis Ruzicka were re-elected to three-year terms.
The business meeting began at 7:00 p.m. and was called to order by President Garry Dearborn. Pastor Mary Ann Sheldon gave the Invocation. During the meeting, reports were given by President Dearborn, Treasurer Gross and Manager Gates. Cooperative Attorney Don Petersen conducted the election of directors.
President Dearborn recognized Director Gene Marone for 10 years. He also talked about the reasons for the rate increase. Manager Gates reported on the strategic business plan and how it governs the way the Cooperative conducts business. He also recognized Tim Goets, lead lineman for 20 years of service, Jim Odegaard for 10 years of service and Kim Blackwell, customer service representative for 5 years of service

President Dearborn introduced Jeff Nelson, East River Electric Power Cooperative's General Manager who spoke on the "Smart Grid."
After the business meeting, prize drawings were held. Ten members received a $50 cash prize, a Power Chef electric grill given to Harlan Stoley and a bike was given to Logan Wurtz and Ann Naber. Each member present was given CFL light bulbs.
Prior to the meeting, Central Catering served a delicious dinner to members and guests. Kids activities were held in the school commons. One of the activities was to build a wind mill.
