Antelope Valley Station, a lignite-fired electric generation station northwest of Beulah, North Dakota, is one of five plants supplying electricity to Basin Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Basin Electric, headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, operates with a total capacity of 3,233 megawatts of electricity. Basin’s plants, among the cleanest coal-burning plants in the nation, serve 123 rural electric member cooperative systems that in turn serve approximately 1.7 million consumers in the nine states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado and New Mexico.
In addition to the generation plant tour, the group will tour The Freedom Mine. The mine, adjacent to the Antelope Valley Station, supplies lignite to the plant. The freedom mine is the largest lignite mine in North America.
Dakota Energy has been offering an inside look of the production of electricity for several years, by giving members/consumers an opportunity to participate in the tour.
Dakota Energy provides transportation via coach charter bus, all meals and overnight accommodations for one night and a riverboat excursion.
